China will impose sanctions on four people with links to some U.S. organizations over interference in Hong Kong's affairs, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Monday.

John Knaus, senior director for Asia at the National Endowment for Democracy; Manpreet Singh Anand, senior director of Asian affairs at the National Democratic Institute (NDI); Crystal Rosario, regional director for NDI's engagement in Hong Kong; and Kelvin Sit Tak-O, NDI program manager in Hong Kong are the individuals to be sanctioned.

They will be banned from entering the Chinese mainland, as well as Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, Hua told a daily briefing.

"The U.S. behavior blatantly interferes in Hong Kong affairs and grossly interferes in China's domestic affairs," she said, adding that China firmly opposes such interference.

When asked to clarify the details of the sanctions at Tuesday's briefing, Hua said she had announced the sanctions on Monday, urging the U.S. to immediately stop interfering in China's domestic affairs.

In August, China hit 11 U.S. officials with "egregious records on Hong Kong affairs" with sanctions.

This month, the United States said it was imposing sanctions on four more officials from the Chinese central government and the HKSAR government.
