An official in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has been penalized for serious violations of discipline and law and suspected corruption, the country's top anti-graft body said on Monday.

Ren Hua, vice-chairperson of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region's government, has been dismissed from office and expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The decision came after the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission previously launched an investigation into Ren Hua for suspected illegal behaviors during his tenure.
