A local court on Monday issued punishments for 53 defendants and seven entities for their role in a deadly chemical plant blast in east China's Jiangsu Province on March 21, 2019.

The blast at a chemical plant in Xiangshui County of Yancheng, claimed 78 lives and severely injured 76 people, causing 1.99 billion yuan (about $284.3 million) in damages.
