Confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide have exceeded 71 million, with over 1.5 million fatalities and more than 45 million recoveries, according to a tally from Johns Hopkins University.

The Chinese mainland on Saturday recorded 24 new COVID-19 cases, including five locally transmitted cases. The local transmissions included four cases reported in Heilongjiang Province and one in Sichuan Province.  

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. has surpassed 16 million, with over 297,000 deaths. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday authorized Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use. About 31,000 doses of vaccine will be distributed to hospitals around Washington state early next week, reported CNN.
