Wuhan finds COVID-19 on imported frozen beef and pork packages

Authorities in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, found traces of COVID-19 on packaging samples from imported frozen pork and beef, local health authorities said Sunday. 

Local authorities said the 1,527 cases of frozen pork products, weighing 27.49 tonnes, were imported from Brazil. They arrived at a cold storage center in Wuhan on July 29. 

The 1,210 cases of imported frozen beef products, weighing 26.93 tonnes, were imported from Uruguay and arrived in Wuhan on March 28.  

The whereabouts of the products have been made clear and relevant investigations are underway. 

Local authorities have sealed the products, disinfected the area and conducted nucleic acid tests on relevant personnel. 

As of 6 a.m. Sunday, 511 environmental samples gathered from the cold storage facility, 460 packaging samples and 524 employees working there have tested negative for COVID-19.
