Tuanjie Village was one of nine poor villages in Chahandusi Township, Haidong City in northwest China's Qinghai Province. Tuanjie has an aging population who mostly make their living from the soil. For Makelimu, however, life here is especially hard as three of the four members of his family have disabilities. His wife has a speech disability, his son is hearing impaired and he has a grade 3 physical disability. As a result, the family was one of the most poverty-stricken households in the village.
