Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui on Tuesday attended the expert appointment ceremony for the International Commercial Expert Committee under the Supreme People's Court.

Zhou Qiang, president of the Supreme People's Court, issued letters of appointment and delivered a speech to the newly appointed committee members.

Some 40 experts from Singapore, Kazakhstan, Egypt, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao were present at the meeting or attended via a video link.

Luo noted that the committee came into being thanks to the Belt and Road Initiative and has since then forged an indissoluble bond with the grand blueprint.

"The past seven years have seen the initiative being widely recognized by the international community and written into the UN General Assembly resolution," said Luo.

"A total of 138 countries and 31 international organizations endorsed cooperation documents with China in the interim."

"The committee has exerted an instrumental role in this process. It provides intellectual support for the Belt and Road Initiative and contributes Chinese wisdom to global governance," added the senior official.

The International Commercial Expert Committee was officially established in 2018 and is made up of 32 domestic and foreign experts.

It was launched to serve the building of the Belt and Road Initiative and to offer mediation services for parties involved in international commercial disputes.

It also provides advisory opinions on specialized legal issues arising in the trial of commercial disputes and offers suggestions concerning relevant judicial interpretations and policies.
