Margaret Keenan, 90, became the first patient in the world to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine following its clinical approval by the NHS. Keenan received the vaccine at about 6:45 a.m. on December 8, marking the start of a global immunization program. The UK is getting a head start on the project after regulators gave emergency authorization to the vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech on December 2. The first shipments of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were delivered to a selected group of UK hospitals on December 6. The government is targeting more than 25 million people in the first phase of its vaccination program, giving priority to those who are most at risk from the disease.
