Agnes Chow denied bail after sentenced to 10 months in jail for besieging HK police headquarters

Agnes Chow, former leader of the disbanded Demosisto, a separatist group advocating "Hong Kong independence," was denied bail on Wednesday.

Chow, 24, was sentenced to 10 months on December 2 for besieging the Hong Kong police headquarters in 2019.

Starting June last year, protests and sometimes riots sparked by a later-defunct fugitive bill plunged China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) into a state of complete chaos. 

On June 30, China's top legislature adopted the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR to deal with the year-long social unrest.
