Indonesia is holding regional elections despite a rising number of COVID-19 infections, with more than 100-million people eligible to vote. 

Initial results are expected over the course of the day, with final tallies coming next week. The vote came just days after Indonesia recorded its highest daily increase of more than 8,000 new coronavirus cases.

The election had been pushed back once, but the government ignored calls for a second postponement.
