China builds safe housing for mountain villagers amid poverty battle
Pan Yang was selected by Liangshan Bureau of China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission to work as the first secretary of poverty alleviation in Kuijiu Village, southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Because most of Liangshan's population resided in mountainous areas, the construction of safe housing and supporting facilities was an important part of the village's poverty alleviation program.
"Infrastructure construction is only one part of poverty alleviation work. Most importantly, we need to give villagers hope for the future," Pan said. Since Pan and his poverty alleviation team came to the village, they have not only brought new ideas and concepts, but also pointed the villagers towards a way for future development.
