The American Volunteer Group (AVG), also known as the Flying Tigers, earned admiration and praise from China during World War Two. The Tigers carried out missions against invading Japanese forces from the air from 1942 to 1945. To honor their sacrifice, China has erected a monument in southwestern Yunnan Province, where the group was based.
