Chinese leaders plan the country's economic goals for next year
China is putting the finishing touches to its economic plan for 2021, which marks the start of the next Five-Year-Plan period. One phrase stands out in its blue print - "demand-side reform". The statement released after Friday's meeting of the politburo called for reforms on both the supply and demand sides. Those will help, it said, to achieve what it called a dynamic equilibrium on a higher level. The message is a continuing determination to move to an economy driven not so much by exports or infrastructure spending as by ordinary Chinese families.
