The temperature in Beijing has fluctuated since the beginning of winter, reaching its lowest of the season yet on Monday. To ensure a comfortable and cozy stay for the denizens of Beijing Zoo, authorities have installed innovative heating equipment.

For tropical weather-friendly hippos, the zoo has built a spa tank. The water temperature is kept between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius to maintain the feel of their natural habitat.

Heat lamps set at around 20 degrees Celsius have been made available for anteaters and tortoises.

According to the zoo keepers, factors like animals' natural habits and outside weather are taken into consideration before determining the required temperatures.

When the mercury drops below 14 degrees Celsius for three consecutive nights, heating measures are taken for tropical monkeys and reptiles to keep the temperature at above 20 degrees Celsius in their barns.

When the figure plunges below nine degrees Celsius for three consecutive nights, a similar plan of action is executed to stabilize temperatures at above 15 degrees Celsius for chimpanzees, gibbons, Malayan tapirs, elephants, and other tropical animals.

However, there are some winter lovers as well. Tigers and takins grow thicker fur to enjoy the frigid weather even before the season sneaks in.
