Six flamingos were spotted foraging and flying at the salt lake area of Yuncheng City in north China's Shanxi Province on Tuesday. Pink and white flamingos glowed against the clear lake, creating a vivid wildlife scenery.

Flamingos are wading birds and get their name from the Portuguese or Spanish word "flamengo," which means "flame-colored." Such birds mainly inhabit the Mediterranean coast, northwest India, Africa and the West Indies.

China is not a distribution area for flamingos and the birds were spotted in Shanxi, Shandong and Shaanxi only in small groups. According to local records, flamingos have been coming to Yuncheng for six consecutive years thanks to its great ecological environment.
