The Washington National Cathedral tolled its bell 300 times to honor the 300,000 Americans lost to COVID-19 — once for every 1,000 dead.

The coronavirus is still surging in the U.S. as the infection case count surpassed 16.7 million on December 16, according to Johns Hopkins University.
