A prominent exhibition dedicated to imperial costumes of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) was held in the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) on December 16.
Titled "Stately Demeanour: Costumes of Qing Emperors and Empresses from the Collection of the Palace Museum," the exhibition showcases nearly 90 sets of costumes, including accessories of Qing emperors and empresses. The collection is from the Palace Museum in Beijing.
This exhibition is based on the records dating back to the Qing Dynasty and the original items collected by the Palace Museum, reflecting the clothing system of that period and showcasing the culture and aesthetics behind the costumes.

The exhibition has been divided into five sections, including official costumes, festive costumes, regular costumes, military and travel costumes, as well as leisure costumes, integrating their features in different periods of the Qing Dynasty across the axis of time to showcase the clothing etiquette and fashion trend of the era.
The collection includes selected artifacts from the periods of the emperors Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong, and items worn by imperial consorts from the mid and late Qing Dynasty.
Organized jointly by the MAM and the Palace Museum, the exhibition will run until March 14, 2021.
