Italian forward Graziano Pelle headed down the winning goal for Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Cup final in a 2-0 victory over Jiangsu Suning on Saturday.
In minute 77 of the game, Pelle headed in the team's second goal with a free-kick from Moises Lima Magalhaes. Jiangsu failed to change the score after that.
As the winner of the 2020 Chinese Super League, Jiangsu fielded an all-Chinese squad in the game. The two sides delivered an amazing game even with a goalless first half.
Wang Tong of Luneng opened the scoring with the left foot in the 50th minute. Former Manchester United player Marouane Fellaini attacked with a header, which was denied by Jiangsu's goalkeeper.
Luneng advanced into the CFA Cup finals in the last three seasons but only bagged one title in the past six years. With the victory, the team has won the Chinese FA Cup six times since the first in 1995.
Shandong Luneng head coach Hao Wei said the championship was a good reward for the club.
"I hope the club will achieve better results," said Hao Wei.
Luneng will compete in the 2021 AFC Champions League as the Cup winner.
