China expressed firm opposition to any forces or individuals interfering in China's internal affairs in any way, harboring criminals or interfering in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) judiciary, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday in response to "Hong Kong independence" advocator Nathan Law seeking asylum in the UK.

HKSAR is a society under the rule of law, the rights and interests of Hong Kong residents are protected in accordance with the law, and any illegal or criminal act will be punished by law, Wang said.

Law is a criminal suspect wanted by the Hong Kong police. China opposes any forces covering up illegal criminals for political purposes, Wang said, adding that China has warned that lawbreakers begging for external shelter in any way will fail.
