About 1,500 trucks awaiting passage out of the U.K. were stuck at a lorry park in Kent, following a travel ban imposed by France on December 22.
The ban was announced after a new variant of coronavirus was found to be spreading in southeast England. Drivers held out hope that the ordeal might end within hours, after the EU's executive arm recommended lifting the measure.
