Speaking at a press conference on December 23, UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced that a second "more contagious" variant of coronavirus has been detected in the UK. The two cases of the new variant were contacts of cases who have traveled from South Africa over the past few weeks. Anyone in the UK who has been in South Africa in the past two weeks must quarantine immediately, Hancock said.
