China and Australia have collaborated on a rescue mission for an Australian expeditioner with help from the U.S.
Chinese helicopters from the nearby icebreaker Xuelong 2 were dispatched to transport the ill Australian from the Davis research station. A U.S. plane flew to pick up the patient and return to Australia's Wilkins Aerodrome. The operation took five days and covered thousands of kilometres of the icy continent.
