Mutated COVID-19 strain confirmed in Japan

Five people who have returned to Japan from the U.K. have tested positive with a mutated form of COVID-19 that is said to spread more easily, which was the first such case in the country, the health ministry said Friday.

Japan confirmed a record 3,748 new coronavirus cases on Friday, the third consecutive day above 3,000.
