The platypus, one of the world's most unique creatures, is disappearing from Australia's waterways. Apart from poaching, urbanization is plundering habitats from the platypus.

Scientists pointed out that the platypus can only survive in a healthy river system, which makes the animal’s decline even more alarming. The Australian government is considering whether to officially classify the platypus as a threatened species to ensure greater protection.
