Times Square's annual New Year celebration is going on. As usual, the celebration includes the famous ball drop, countdowns and musical performances. Unlike previous years, people can watch the traditional event online this time to contain the spread of COVID-19. This tradition, dropping the iconic crystal ball at midnight in Times Square to greet the New Year, began in 1907.
