China's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020 is expected to cross 100-trillion-yuan mark, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his New Year address on Thursday.

"We have overcome the blow of the COVID-19 pandemic, balancing epidemic prevention work and economic development, which gained significant achievements," said President Xi.

Among major economies, China has taken the lead in achieving positive growth this year, he added.

The year witnessed China successfully completing key tasks from the 13th Five-Year Plan and setting new goals in the 14th Five-Year Plan. Xi said China will accelerate the establishment of a new development pattern and deepen high-quality development.

Additionally, China has secured bumper harvests for 17 consecutive years.

China's first Mars mission Tianwen-1, the Chang'e-5 lunar probe, and deep-sea manned submersible Fendouzhe, marked significant scientific breakthroughs.

The construction of the Hainan free trade port has also picked up steam, along with China's macro plan to further open up.
