South China's Guangdong Province on Saturday detected one case of the mutant strain of the coronavirus. The gene sequence of the strain is highly similar to the virus strain first found in the UK, according to Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The patient, an 18-year-old Chinese student studying overseas, entered the city of Guangzhou from the UK on December 4, 2020 and tested positive for the coronavirus on December 18.
