Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi begins a five-nation tour of Africa today. A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said this is in line with China's 30-year diplomatic tradition of Africa as the destination of its foreign minister's first overseas trip each year. For an analysis of Wang's trip, Global Watch talked to He Wenping, a Research Fellow at the Institute of West Asian and African Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She said that diversity of five different destinations helps bring better communication and exchanges between China and Africa.
