The three-day China National Short Track Speed Skating Championships concluded its first day of competition in Tianjin on Sunday. In the men's 1500-meter race, Wu Dajing from northeast China's Jilin Province claimed gold while 19-year-old Zhu Yiding broke the national record in the quarter-finals.
Wu, with number 23 on his helmet and words "Jilin" on his outfit, had the best results from the semis and started from lane 1.

After the first lap, Ren Ziwei speeded up to second place and later exchanged the lead with Wu. But the 2018 Winter Olympic 500 meters winner later showed off his ability to retake the lead.
He crossed the line first to claim gold with the result of two minutes and 14. 631 seconds. Zhang Tianyi, another player from Jilin Province, finished second, and the bronze medal went to the new national record holder, Zhu.

The gold medal of women's 1,500 meters was claimed by Guo Yihan, also from Jilin Province, as she overwhelmed other medal favorites Xu Aili, Li Jinyu and Han Yutong.

Tian Qinwen took the lead after the third turn but Guo speeded up and surpassed her after three laps.
Guo managed to keep the lead until the end to claim gold with a time of two minutes and 23.421 seconds. Han took silver and the bronze went to Li.
