Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged letters a few days ago with his Argentine counterpart, Alberto Fernandez, on further deepening bilateral relations and jointly fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a severe test for the whole world. People from China and Argentina have been helping each other in the fight against the virus and the traditional friendship between the two countries has been promoted, President Xi said.

China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with Argentina in the research, development and application of COVID-19 vaccines, Xi said, adding that China will, as much as possible, continue to provide assistance to Argentina in the fight against the pandemic.

China attaches great importance to the development of Sino-Argentine relations and is willing to work with Argentina to enhance high-quality cooperation in building the Belt and Road, promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, and jointly lead the development of their comprehensive strategic partnership, he stressed.

Fernandez spoke highly of the development of bilateral ties and China's achievements in fighting the pandemic, and thanked China for its support of Argentina in fighting the virus.

China has completed its poverty eradication target and made outstanding achievements in science and technology, benefiting not only the Chinese but all people around the world, said Fernandez.

Both Argentina and China advocate multilateralism, and support dialogue between countries, the strengthening of regional dialogue, and harmonious development, he noted.

The Belt and Road Initiative is conducive to deepening connectivity and mutual understanding between the two countries, and Argentina is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in COVID-19 vaccines and other areas to promote greater development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, he stressed.
