As winter intensifies, a total of 708.5 kilometers of China's Yellow River had frozen by January 5. The river began freezing on December 3, 2020, for the 2020-2021 season. Up to 649.5 km of the river's Ningxia-Inner Mongolia section have frozen. China's Ministry of Water Resources has ordered the meteorological and hydrology departments in provinces along the river to take precautions against ice-jam flooding and dam breaches.
