The Amsterdam-based European Medicines Agency (EMA) said on Wednesday that it has authorized Moderna's coronavirus vaccine, the second vaccine approved by the EU medicine watchdog after the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

"EMA has recommended granting a conditional marketing authorization for COVID-19 Vaccine Moderna to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 in people from 18 years of age," it said in a statement.
