Seven more people have tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, Deputy Mayor Meng Xianghong told a press briefing.

The seven positive cases were found after nearly two million samples were collected from the city's mass testing campaign.

The testing started in the early hours of Wednesday and about 30 percent of the swabs were tested by Wednesday afternoon.

Following the regional outbreak of infections in the city, the Hebei Health Commission dispatched 1,000 medical personnel from other cities for support, with another 2,000 to be sent tomorrow.

Shijiazhuang has halted in-person classes and gatherings, as well as certain businesses due to the resurgence of infections.

From January 2 to 5, a total of 33 confirmed cases and 81 asymptomatic cases were found in the city.
