Facebook announced a 24-hour "feature block" on Wednesday for U.S. President Donald Trump's page, which will stop the president from posting during that period.

"We've assessed two policy violations against President Trump's Page which will result in a 24-hour feature block, meaning he will lose the ability to post on the platform during that time," Facebook tweeted.

The social media platform has also removed a recent video of Trump speaking about the protests at the Capitol on Wednesday and his subsequent post about the election results, as these posts "contribute to, rather than diminish, the risk of ongoing violence," the company said.

Instagram, owned by Facebook, will also block Trump's account for 24 hours, Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed in a tweet.

The decision follows Twitter's move to lock his account for 12 hours and a warning of permanent suspension
