Supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump smashed media equipment and screamed at journalists beside the U.S. Capitol after protesters stormed into the building and shut down legislative sessions. 

Wearing red campaign hats, they waved blue flags and charged into the debating chamber. Legislators were given gas masks to protect themselves against tear gas as they rushed to safety.
