U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the invasion of the Capitol and said he's committed to a smooth, orderly transition of power in a newly released video posted on Twitter on Thursday after the 12-hour ban executed by the social media giant ended.

"The demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy. To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country," Trump said in the 160-second video. "And to those who broke the law, you will pay."

In the video message aimed at calming tensions after his supporters stormed into the Capitol building as Biden's election victory was being certified by lawmakers inside, Trump also acknowledged that Biden will be the next U.S. president.

"A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power. This moment calls for healing and reconciliation," he said.
