The United States Capitol Police (USCP) on Thursday said media reports regarding the death of a police officer involved in Wednesday's riots were not accurate, adding that "although some officers were injured and hospitalized yesterday, no USCP officers have passed away," according to a statement acquired by U.S. media.

Multiple media outlets, including CNN and The New York Times, earlier reported that a USCP officer had become the fifth casualty of Wednesday's chaos at the Capitol.

CNN updated its report following the USCP's statement, saying the officer "is on life support," citing Capitol Police union chair Gus Papathanasiou.

House Representative Dean Phillips from the state of Minnesota, also said on Twitter prior to the statement that he was advised that a USCP officer "has died of injuries sustained in yesterday's assault on the Capitol."
