PLA: India promises to return missing Chinese soldier
A Chinese soldier who had got lost along the China-India border region was found by the Indian side, People's Liberation Army (PLA) Daily said in a statement on Saturday, adding that the Indian side promised to return the soldier to the Chinese border patrol.
According to the statement, the soldier got lost along the China-India border in the early hours of Friday morning due to darkness and the complex terrain. The Chinese border patrol reached the Indian side immediately after the incident. The Indian side confirmed the soldier was found after two-hour search and rescue efforts.
The Indian army agreed and promised to return the soldier after obtaining permission from their superior, said the statement, which asked India to abide by relevant agreements reached between the two sides.
"We hope the Indian side could keep its promise and return the soldier as soon as possible," the statement said, urging India to play a constructive role in easing tensions in the border areas and to jointly defend peace and stability in the region.
