U.S. Vice President Mike Pence hasn't ruled out the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment to oust Donald Trump from office if the president becomes "more unstable," according to CNN on Saturday.
Earlier media reports said Pence was opposed to using the amendment to remove Trump for fear of pushing the president to rash action, thus putting the nation at risk.
House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have both called on Pence to invoke the amendment, following the U.S. Capitol mayhem on Wednesday, which disrupted the process of counting the electoral votes and verifying Biden's election win and left five dead.
The 25th Amendment allows the vice president and Cabinet to remove the president if the majority of the cabinet members certify to Congress that the president is unable to perform his duties.
Trump has only days left in his term, and if impeached again as Pelosi threatened, he would be the only president impeached twice in U.S. history.
