The U.S. Trump administration will ask states to give COVID-19 vaccines to everyone over 65 and to others at high risk due to pre-existing conditions by not holding back the second dose of the two-dose shots, the AP and the New York Times reported on Tuesday.

The Department of Health and Human Services is expected to announce the new recommendations at a briefing at noon on Tuesday, according to the New York Times.

The U.S. has reported over 376,000 deaths due to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University's tally. The recent daily number of deaths in the country has shot up to over 4,000.
