Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Wednesday reported 40 new COVID-19 cases and 50 asymptomatic cases as of 7:00 p.m., local officials said during a press conference. 

Meanwhile, Huiqi Village in Wangkui County, Suihua City, was labelled a high-risk area for COVID-19, making it the second high-risk area currently in China. The COVID-19 alert level in Wangkui County was also moved up to medium, said the officials.

The other high-risk area in China is Gaocheng District of Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. 

Genome sequencing of the virus strain in Wangkui County showed it was the same as the strain in the latest outbreak in Dalian City, northeast China's Liaoning Province, said officials, adding it's not yet clear how it was transmitted.
