Year 2020 ended as America's most violent year, U.S. media reported. Over 19,000 people were killed in shootings and firearm-related incidents, the highest death toll in 20 years. Mass shootings, in which four or more people were shot, rose drastically to over 600, a nearly 50-percent increase from the figure in 2019. For more insight, Global Watch spoke with Dr. Richard Chasdi, a lecturer of political science at George Washington University, who said guns have a cultural significance for some Americans.
