Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed joint efforts in building closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future during a meeting with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi in Brunei's capital Bandar Seri Begawan on Thursday.

Praising bilateral ties as the most dynamic and fruitful among ASEAN's dialogue partners, Wang said that the two sides should take the opportunity presented by the 30th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue to elevate the relationship.

China is willing to enhance public health cooperation with the ASEAN, carry out vaccine cooperation with more ASEAN countries, and jointly forge the blue economy partnership, Wang said.

Cooperation in digital economy, people-to-people exchanges and the development of the China-ASEAN Cooperation Fund were also stressed by the Chinese foreign minister.

Lim Jock Hoi, for his part, thanked China for its strong support to ASEAN in fighting the pandemic.

This year, ASEAN will focus on poverty alleviation, disaster prevention and mitigation, and sustainable development, and stand ready to strengthen cooperation with China in these areas, he added.

ASEAN is committed to uphold a free, open and rules-based free trade system, and support its member states in deepening cooperation with China to speed the regional economic recovery, he said.
