Dubai unveiled on Saturday its key pavilion, Terra, for the upcoming Expo 2020, which was postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Terra, also called the Sustainability Pavilion, features a series of eco-friendly concepts including a 130-meter-wide canopy covered with 1,055 solar panels to generate electricity. It covers an area of 25,000 square meters.

The pavilion will open to the public from January 22 to April 10, and another two themed pavilions are expected to be open in the first quarter of this year, according to the organizers.

Meanwhile, an art and design committee of the China Pavilion was established in Beijing on Saturday to prepare for a series of cultural activities to be held during the event. With an area of 4,636 square meters, the China Pavilion will be one of the largest at the expo, blending traditional Chinese elements with modern architectural concepts.

"We aim to deliver Chinese culture to the world on every level of art designs and innovations," said Huang Jiancheng, chief artistic officer of the China Pavilion.

Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to open its doors on October 1, 2021 and will run until March 31, 2022.
