Gongzhuling City in China's northeast Jilin Province will conduct free nucleic acid tests for all residents and recommend that they self-isolate, according to a statement issued by local health authorities on Monday.
The city of over a million people, which has seen sporadic cases recently, will temporarily shut down all non-essential locations except supermarkets, hospitals and pharmacies.
Local government also imposes a weeklong restriction on going out, prohibiting residents from leaving their communities and gathering in groups, the statement said.
