Crescent Lake, named for its curved shape, is surrounded by desert and located six kilometers south of the city of Dunhuang in Gansu Province, northwest China.

Just as water and fire are incompatible, it's rare to see the coexistence of a desert and a spring. But this is not the case for Crescent Lake, which is surrounded by the Echoing-Sand Mountain. The golden sandhill and the blue lake cast a beautiful image of harmonious existence.
