A senior Chinese official said that the mainland will break the obstruction set by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in cross-Straits communication and cooperation, eyeing for more preferential policies for residents of the Taiwan region while stressing resolute efforts against any separatist efforts.

Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the remarks at an annual meeting of central and local officials in charge of Taiwan affairs.

The meeting was held from Sunday to Monday in Beijing.

Outlining future work in Taiwan affairs, Wang said that the Chinese mainland will continue to improve institutional arrangements, policies and measures for Taiwan compatriots, making sure their benefits are guaranteed.

He also stressed that the China will uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus and resolutely deter any individuals or forces to separate the Taiwan region from its motherland, and promote the cross-Straits relations in a peaceful way.

Reviewing work in the past year, Wang said that the achievements were hard-earned as respective regions and departments have to systematically manage related work in epidemic control and prevention as well as in social and economic development.

Moving forward, he called on the officials in charge of Taiwan affairs to strengthen their risk awareness and improve their work efficiency, practically carrying out related polices and decisions from CPC Central Committee.
