Following a sharp temperature drop brought by a recent cold wave, breathtaking winter scenes of snow, rime and clouds adorned the Burqin River Basin of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with frosty glory on Sunday.
As the sun rose, crystal-clear rime, stretching over dozens of kilometers, whitened the birch forest on both sides of the river basin with mist floating over the river surface. If the difference of temperature in a day is over 15 degrees Celsius due to cold snap, a rime landscape is easily formed when the cold and warm air meet.
