China Media Group (CMG) on Wednesday praised CGTN America correspondent Nathan King for his professionalism in covering the storming of the U.S. Capitol earlier this month in a statement.

On January 6, pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol Hill. Many news outlets, including CGTN America, were attacked by demonstrators at their usual live-shot positions outside the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., according to the CMG statement.

King showed great professional spirit and finished his live reports even after demonstrators damaged the team's news production equipment, said the statement.

Below is the full text of the statement issued on Wednesday:

The editor's committee of CMG made an announcement on Wednesday to praise and reward Nathan King on his professional and outstanding performance on reporting the January 6 U.S. Capitol assault.

On January 6, a group of rioters stormed the Capitol Hill, causing five deaths, and dozens of injuries. CGTN America's Nathan King and his team were threatened and attacked by the rioters, with their equipment broken. Braving the chaos and threats, King and his team still held their media sense, work ethic and adaptability, demonstrating professionalism and the credibility of an international media outlet.

CMG is now working on establishing a major world-class media outlet. Over 700 international correspondents have been committed to the development of the agency, hand in hand with the Chinese staff. We hope all the staff can keep pursuing perfection in their work, reporting truth and justice, advocating for the beauty of civilization, and establishing a media outlet with strong guidance, coverage and influence.
