U.S. COVID-19 death toll exceeds WWII military fatalities: JHU tracker

The U.S. COVID-19 death toll on Wednesday surpassed the total American military death toll from World War II, according to a tracker maintained by Johns Hopkins University. 

As of Wednesday evening, the tracker showed that 405,400 people have died from the disease caused by the novel coronavirus in the United States. The total number of combat and non-combat deaths in World War II was 405,399, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
